Today is Day 1 of our adventure without Justin while he is away in Kenya. He is on the plane as I type for the next 8 hours to arrive in Amsterdam around 2 am or so, then will be on another 8 hour flight to Kenya. I have really had a hard time with this trip-mainly because I am not a part of it. I love to travel, especially with Justin and have never been to Africa, so it' been really hard for me to sit back and watch everyone prepare to leave for what I know will be an amazing adventure!
Life is crazy here on a daily basis, but it always seems when he is away, it gets even more hectic and crazy. My day started out with Pressley waking up and groggily telling me she was soapy. I ignored it, thinking she was just dreaming, and she went back to sleep for a bit longer. When she awoke for real, she told me she needed to change her clothes because she was wet. Eventually I realized she had peed the bed and we proceeded to clean everything up. If you don't have bunk beds, stripping them and re-making them is in itself a big ordeal. I love the idea of bunk beds, but practically speaking they are a pain in the behind when it comes to making the beds from scratch...especially on my own. It's quite a sight I'm sure watching me struggle to lift the mattress and tuck the sheets at the same time!
This evening, my sister, Jeremy and Tessa made it to visit us and after dinner, my kitchen was hazy and the house smelled like smoke. We thought it might be the oven, then my heaters getting hot, but after crawling around on our hands and knees sniffing, searching the attic and taking a walk outside, we found nothing. Getting a bit panicky, I was thankful that they were here to help me figure out where the burning smell was coming from. Finally, after opening the dishwasher, I realized something had fallen in and melted, so no fire...thank goodness! The house is still standing (so far!), the "slap chop" cap, though, is not.
